Torchlight 2 takes you out of the dungeons and exposes you to the great wide world. Well, to be more specific it was set in the deep dungeons to be found under Torchlight. The original Torchlight was set in the town of…Torchlight. The setting for Torchlight is a magic-y, steampunk-y amalgamation filled with guns, goblins, and giant wrenches wielded by mustachioed gentlemen. I can’t say I’m terribly saddened by this as I personally don’t have a high opinion of MMOs, but I know some people were a bit peeved. There were plans to release an MMO set in the Torchlight universe, but upon the release of Torchlight 2 those plans were cancelled. To date, Runic has only released the two Torchlight games. Torchlight 2 is an action RPG that was developed and published by Runic Games in September of 2012. I want to talk about how it stands up on its own merit as a video game. I don’t want to hold Torchlight up to other games and see how it compares. Yes, Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 were released around the same time. Yes, Torchlight 2 was created by many of the same members that created the original Diablo games. Or I would talk about Diablo 3 and how it compares to Torchlight 2. While attempting to start this review, I found that I would just blather on about Diablo 2 and how much that game impacted me and the gaming industry itself.

Despite this, players often go their way to improve their character. As always, my reviews can be found over at Beer and Joysticks. The co-op mode also stimulates joint play, because only together can evil be overcome. Tactics, skill, reaction speed, and patience are required. Players can spend a lot of time to be more and more successful and to try out new things in the game again and again.

Because of the simple game principle and the more and more powerful characters, "Torchlight 2" has a certain potential for addiction. It is up to the player to follow the alchemist over 4 acts and defeat him in the end. The other two heroes were unable to stop the new threat. But Ordrak's corrupt heart continued to beat and drew one of the three heroes ("the alchemist") to the side of evil. The story of the game continues directly from the end of the predecessor: After the victory over the demon Ordrak, the city of Torchlight seemed to be saved. For his success, he is rewarded with experience points, which ultimately lead to level ascents and new abilities, rare items, and gold. Like its successful predecessor, the comic-style action or hack & slay role-playing game offers the typical Diablo-style fare: The player embodies the hero of the story while fighting against increasingly powerful monsters.
